Assenza,
più acuta presenza.
(Attilio Bertolucci)
NebbiaVR is an immersive journey through fog. The fog you see, the fog you pass through, the fog that envelops us and makes us lose our usual and reassuring references. It’s an artistic project aimed to explore what it means to look and see, to inhabit and experience space, to construct memory, to get lost and find ourselves again. A series of interconnected virtual worlds, each offering a different interpretation of fog: not as a simple atmospheric effect, but as a conceptual material, a threshold, a perceptual device.
Fog – mystery, loss, suspension – questions our visual certainties, undermines the idea of reality as something defined and stable, and forces us to reconstruct our mental maps. In NebbiaVR, fog isn’t just what prevents us from seeing: it’s also what generates, constructs, and shapes. It’s the substance that boundaries, absences, and fragile presences are made of.
Each environment is a variation on this theme. An interior and exterior landscape, where technology is not an end in itself, but becomes a tool to question technology itself, the way we construct and consume images. Artificial intelligence also participates in the process, not as a neutral creator, but as a fallible interpreter, a machine that dreams and makes mistakes, that remembers poorly, perhaps a “fogged” device that generates mistaken, ambiguous, and disturbing worlds.
The NebbiaVR Virtual Worlds
There’s no clear direction to follow. No linear path. No truth to reach, but multiple experiences to travers. Each visitor constructs their own journey, encountering what they can, what they want, or what the fog allows them to glimpse.
NebbiaVR doesn’t narrate, it doesn’t explain. It offers places. Suspensions. Crossings. Distorted memory. And in this crossing, perhaps something emerges: a thought about seeing, knowing, remembering.
You will experiences the following virtual worlds without a defined path, a linear sequence, a scheduled time, an ending point.
- Mistrees: a space in decline, a world always on the verge of vanishing. And yet, something unexpectedly appears.
- NEONebbia: a perceptual threshold, where fog becomes a canvas for neon beams that carve the space without ever fully revealing
- Follow Me: an invitation and an elusive promise. Within the fog, a dark ribbon moves — like a brushstroke of ink, a calligraphy that refuses to be read.
- PsychoFog: an impossible architecture: a building without substance, modernist geometries dissolving into fog, made of shifting colors and motion.
- Inside Out: a space of transition between real and virtual, between presence and representation.
- Nacht und Nebel: a world at the edge of memory — a fence that cannot be crossed, a darkness that never lifts.
- Fool Immersion: a journey without anchors — a total immersion into the densest fog, where all spatial reference dissolves and what remains is the encounter with the other, or perhaps with yourself.
- Fog Museum: the museum that shouldn’t exist. A space drawn by absence, where walls are outlined on the floor but remain invisible, and fog drifts freely through the galleries.
- Reflect: a space of refraction and reflections, where vision and thought become dislocated.
- Solid as a Fog: the materialization of a paradox: fog that thickens, coagulates, becomes stone.
- Proof of Concept – The Map: the invisible core of NebbiaVR. An abstract, borderless environment where you navigate through a conceptual map turned into space.
- A Bout de Souffle: the point of saturation. A thick, white mist — no space, no time, no image. You’re alone. There is nothing to see.
